Song Competition Announcement
November 25th, 2018
The Song Competition organizers, UN Women Liberia and Orange Liberia in collaboration with Tunes
Liberia, are pleased to announce the winners of the very first Song Competition to stop gender-based
violence, promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
The Song Competition aimed at leveraging the universal medium of music, to encourage the
participation of musically talented people in the creation of songs that are captivating and impactful
in sending a strong message by using people’s talent writing and knowledge on gender equality and
women’s rights in Liberia.
UN Women, Orange and Tunes Liberia were absolutely delighted to support such a positive and
exciting competition, especially for the commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism.
The Song Competition received more than 30 entries. All the entries were evaluated by members of
the jury who selected 8 entries from the first round to proceed to second round. Four finalists were
selected from the second round.
The impressive quality of songs received through Tunes Liberia in the past few days made the task of
choosing winners enjoyable, but also challenging as they were strong contenders and outstanding
entries, both in lyrics and vibe.
This said, it was originally planned to have only 2 winners however, the organizers decided to extend
the list of prizes to 4 winners, given the good quality of the songs received. Moreover, all the prize
winners will be given the golden opportunity to get their songs heard by performing in the open-door
programme for the launch of the 16 Days of Activism to beheld on November 26th, 2018 in presence
of the President of Liberia.
After several hours of deliberation, the following 4 award winners were finally selected by the Jury:
• “Voice of a Woman” – from Keri & Gospel Medic
• “Gender Equality” – from E-Lo
• “Don’t beat Women” – from Rhyme Sean
